1. Enable Fast Charging
First and foremost, you should make sure that the Fast Charging option is enabled on your Samsung phone.
- Launch the Settings app and navigate to Battery and device care. Then select Battery.
- Scroll down to tap on More battery settings. Then ensure that the switches next to Fast charging, Super fast charging, and Fast wireless charging are enabled.
2. Use the Right Adapter and Cable
For fast charging to work, you need to be using the right adapter and the cable. Different phones support different power inputs. Hence, using the right adapter that’s compatible with your phone and supports Adaptive Fast Charging or Super Fast Charing is important. Besides, you’ll also need to check if the USB cable you’re using is damaged. Next, you’ll need to ensure that there are no loose connections and both adapter and the cable are firmly connected. While you’re at it, you can also try switching to a different power outlet if possible. Further, you should check your phone’s USB port for any dirt or lint. If there’s any dirt, then try cleaning it carefully with a cotton swab. Lastly, if you tend to use apps or play games while charging, then your Samsung phone may not charge as fast. Hence, it’s best to avoid using your phone to achieve faster-charging speeds.
3. Check Battery Health
As you charge and discharge your phone, its battery loses its capacity and degrades over time. If the battery on your Samsung device is old, it may not charge as fast as it used to. You can check your battery’s health via the Samsung Members app. The app comes pre-installed on most Samsung Galaxy devices.
- Launch the Settings app and navigate to Battery and device care. Then select Diagnostics. This will open the Samsung Members app.
- Tap on the Battery Status icon and you’ll see your battery’s health. If the reading next to Life reads Good or Normal then your battery health is fine.
4. Disable USB Debugging
Another reason why your Samsung phone may charge slow or fail to charge at all is if the USB debugging mode is enabled. Thankfully, you can turn it off easily by following the steps below. In the Settings app, scroll down to open Developer options. Then under Debugging, turn off the switch next to USB debugging.
5. Try Safe Mode
It’s possible that one of the third-party apps or services running in the background is affecting the charging speed on your device. One quick way to verify this is by booting your phone into Safe Mode. To boot your Samsung phone into Safe Mode, follow the steps below.
- Press down and hold the power button until you see the power off icon.
- Long press on the power off icon, and a Safe Mode icon will appear. Then tap on the Safe Mode icon and your phone will boot in Safe Mode. Try charging your Samsung phone for a few minutes to see if the fast charging is working in the Safe Mode.
6. Check for Software Updates
If the above solutions haven’t helped, then you can check your Samsung device for any pending updates. Aside from new features and improvements, software updates bring all kinds of bug fixes to your phone. So, if the issue is occurring due to a bug, updating it will help. To check for updates, open the Settings app and navigate to Software update. Then tap on Download and install. Your phone will automatically start looking for any updates and download them.
7. Perform a Factory Reset
Lastly, if nothing works, then you should consider resetting your Samsung phone to its factory default settings. This will remove all your data, reset all of the settings and your phone will be as good as new.
- Open the Settings app and go to General management. Scroll down to tap on the Reset option.
- Select Factory data reset and then tap on Reset to begin the process.
Fast and Furious
Of all the mobile innovations that happened in the last decade, fast charging is probably right up there. And once you get used to those blazing fast charging speeds, it’s almost impossible to go back. Hopefully, the above solutions have been good enough to fix the fast charging not working issue on your Samsung device for good.
